Teams from Hanson, Neal Place in the Top Ten at Global DI


LA PLATA, Md.—Teams from Mary B. Neal Elementary School and John Hanson Middle School placed among the top 10 teams in their challenge categories at the global Destination ImagiNation tournament held May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Four other Charles County Public Schools teams also competed at the tournament.

The DI Like Donuts team from Hanson received fifth place among 60 teams at the middle-school level in the Assembly Required challenge. Team members are Rya Nelson, Adam Park, Adam Roberts, Luke Roberts, Kaitlyn Vance and Alzandra Williams. Team managers are parents Steven and Amy Roberts.

The Blue Crabs team from Neal earned ninth place among 42 teams at the elementary level in The World Canvas Project Outreach challenge. Team members are Charles Barley, Chloe Griffin, Nevaeh Griffin, Garrett Hinson, Hannah Kalmus, Jessica Dlamini and Alejandro Rodriguez. Team manager is parent Sandy Kalmus.

The competition is divided into elementary, middle and high school team competitions, and features six challenge categories: Assembly Required, The Solar Stage, Coming Attractions, News to Me!, Hold It! and The World Canvas. More than 1,200 teams competed at the global level, and included schools from 45 states, 12 countries and seven Canadian provinces. Destination ImagiNation is a creative problem-solving program for students in grades kindergarten through college and is active in 50 states and more than 40 countries. Teams of up to seven members work to solve different challenges and present their solutions to a panel of judges. Students compete at the regional, state and global levels.
