MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 22, 2012)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) has released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT UNDER $100: On Friday, June 8, at 3:42pm, TFC M. J. Pitcher responded to the McKay's located on Merchant's Lane in Leonardtown for a reported shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, contact was made with an employee of the establishment who advised a male subject, identified as Kevin Russell Bryant, 20, of Lexington Park was detained in the manager's office of the store. According to the employee, Mr. Bryant was observed picking up items while in the store, and then exiting without purchasing the merchandise. Mr. Bryant was confronted once out of the store and subsequently escorted to the manager's office where in the course of conversation it was determined that Mr. Bryant had stolen from the store on a previous occasion. After obtaining the statement from the witness, TFC Pitcher made contact with Kevin Bryant, who provided a statement regarding the theft. Based on the information provided by both Mr. Bryant and the witness, Kevin Bryant was arrested for Theft Less Than $100.00 and issued a criminal citation with a mandatory court date. Mr. Bryant was released from the scene with a No Trespass Order. The merchandise was returned to the store.

ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE: On Sunday, June 10, at 10:20pm, TFC E. M. Evans conducted a traffic stop in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Rue Purchase Road in Lexington Park on a Mitsubishi for a traffic violation. Upon approaching and making contact the operator, Wayne Joseph Brooks, 20, of Leonardtown, TFC Evans detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Subsequently, Mr. Brooks was asked to exit the vehicle for a probable cause search of the vehicle to be conducted. Mr. Brooks refused to exit the vehicle, and upon being assisted by TFC Evans in exiting the vehicle, attempted to resist being detained. A short struggle ensued and Mr. Brooks was arrested for Second Degree Assault and Resisting Arrest. The probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted revealing CDS and CDS Paraphernalia in the center console and rear passenger seat of the vehicle. Mr. Brooks was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Tuesday, June 12, at 2:45pm, TFC B. T. Wiesemann served a Bench Warrant (T3-12178) on Trong Thi Thachbui, 37, of Springfield, Virginia. The warrant was issued for Mr. Thachbui's arrest on June 14, 2006 by the District Court of St. Mary's County. The warrant was issued with an original charge of Driving On A Suspended Out of State License. Mr. Thachbui turned himself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Tuesday, June 12, at 6:17pm, TFC B. T. Wiesemann served an outstanding Arrest Warrant (T3-15487) on Norris Gilliam, 37, of Lexington Park. The warrant was issued on April 30, 2012 with an original charge of Second Degree Assault by the District Court of St. Mary's County. Mr. Gilliam was located in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Exploration Drive in Lexington Park. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Tuesday, June 12, at 6:35pm, TFC J. A. Pilkerton served a Bench Warrant (T3-15497) on Steven Lee Rovinski, 25, of Mechanicsville. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County on May 4, 2012 with an original charge of Theft Less Than $100.00. Mr. Rovinski was located and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
