MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 31, 2012)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

THEFT LESS THAN $100: On Monday, May 21 at 6:22pm, Tpr. D. Buckalew responded to the Wal-Mart located on Miramar Way in California for a reported theft. Upon arrival, contact was made with Loss Prevention personnel who advised that two males were observed picking up items in the store and then walking thru the store attempting to open the packaging. Contact was made with the two individuals and they were escorted to the Loss Prevention Office. Upon making contact with the suspects, Tpr. Buckalew identified them as a male juvenile, 17, of Lexington Park and a male juvenile, 16, of Lexington Park. Both subjects provided a statement regarding the theft and were subsequently arrested for Theft Less Than $100.00. The property was returned to the store and both juveniles were released to guardians on the scene pending further action by Juvenile Services.

THEFT LESS THAN $100: On Thursday, May 24 at 11:01am, Tpr. E. T. Reuschling responded to the 45000 block of Miramar Way in Lexington Park for a reported shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, contact was made with Wal-Mart Loss Prevention Staff who informed Tpr. Reuschling that a male subject, identified as Lewis Tyler Yates, 19, Saint Inigoes was observed on in-store surveillance taking items from a shelf and placing them on his person. Mr. Yates was observed passing all points of sale and exiting the store without purchasing the items prior to being stopped by Loss Prevention personnel and returned to the Loss Prevention Office. Tpr. Reuschling then made contact with Mr. Yates, who provided information pertaining to the theft. As a result of information provided, Mr. Yates was arrested for Theft Less Than $100.00. He was issued a criminal citation with a mandatory court date and released from the scene. The merchandise was returned to Wal-Mart Loss Prevention.

VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER: On Thursday, May 24 at 3:16pm, TFC R. L. Jackson responded to the 21000 block of Prather Drive for a late report of an assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with Destiny Virginia Kennedy, 20, of Lexington Park who advised she was assaulted. Ms. Kennedy provided TFC Jackson with a statement regarding the assault she was reporting. Information was additionally provided by a witness and a female, whom was later determined to be the victim of a Violation of a Protective Order. Based on the information provided by all subjects involved, TFC Jackson determined that Ms. Kennedy responded to an address on Midway Drive in Lexington Park and was in violation of a final order of protection that was issued on her and was actually the suspect in the assault she was claiming to be the victim of. Following various interviews, TFC Jackson arrested Ms. Kennedy and transported her to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Sunday, May 27 at 1:12pm, TFC E. R. Mersman conducted a traffic stop on a white Isuzu Rodeo in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Maryland Route 5. Upon making contact with the operator, Kenneth Thomas Gunning, 55, of Waldorf, TFC Mersman observed that Mr. Gunning appeared to be under the influence. Mr. Gunning exited the vehicle to perform Standardized Field Sobriety, and was searched for officer safety revealing CDS and CDS Paraphernalia in his pants pocket. Mr. Gunning was unable to satisfactorily complete Standardized Field Sobriety and was subsequently arrested. Prior to exiting the scene, Mr. Gunning advised TFC Mersman that additional "medicine" was in the vehicle. Located in the area of the center console was a prescription bottle for Mr. Gunning; however the contents of the bottle were not the prescribed medicine. Mr. Gunning was transported to the Leonardtown Barrack for additional processing prior to the being transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT LESS THAN $100: On Monday, May 28 at 2:37pm, Tpr. S. M. Ditoto conducted a traffic stop in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Laurel Grove Road on a silver passenger vehicle. Upon approaching the vehicle, contact was made with Curtis Anthony Moore, 35, of Cheverly, who advised Tpr. Ditoto without prompting that his vehicle was newly re-registered when providing him with an expired registration card. A NCIC / Meters query of the vehicle and registration revealed that the vehicle had an expired registration; however a valid registration was displayed. A query of the registration serial number revealed that the sticker had been reported stolen. A roadside interview was conducted with Moore regarding the sticker and how he came to be in possession of it. The sticker was confirmed stolen and removed, and Mr. Moore was issued a criminal citation for Theft Less Than $100.00 and a mandatory court date.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Tuesday, May 29 at 2:30pm, Tpr. S. M. Ditoto served a Bench Warrant (T3-15509) on Joseph W. Bosse, 29, of Mechanicsville. The warrant was issued for Mr. Bosse's arrest on May 16 by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of CDS Possession - Not Marijuana. Mr. Bosse turned himself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
