MSP Reports for Charles County


LA PLATA, Md. (April 13, 2012)—The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) has released the following incident and arrest reports.

STOLEN VEHICLE: On April 4 at approximately 0102 hours, TFC S. Murphy was patrolling northbound on Maryland Route 5, south of Maryland Route 925 when he observed a Silver Dodge Caravan displaying Maryland Dealer Registration. A routine check through MVA/NCIC revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen through the Howard County Police Department on March 30. TFC Murphy conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with Joyetta Yolanda Moore, 47, of Washington D.C. Moore was arrested for “did unlawfully, knowingly, and willfully take out of CARMAX Auto Superstore lawful custody, control and use, a motor vehicle to wit: a 2010 Silver Dodge Caravan without consent of said CARMAX in violation of CR 7-105 of the Annotated Code of Maryland” and “did willfully neglect to return a motor vehicle to wit: Silver 2010 Dodge Caravan after leasing/renting said motor vehicle from CARMAX Auto Superstore under an agreement to return said motor vehicle at the end of the leasing/rental period.”

HANDGUN IN VEHICLE: On April 6 at approximately 0030 hours, Trooper A. Moore was on routine patrol in the area of southbound 301 at Route 228 when he observed a gold Mazda Protégé with an inoperative rear license plate illumination. Trooper Moore stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Robert Daniel Lindsay, 23, of Alexandria, Virginia when he smelled an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. Lindsay was arrested and charged with “did wear, carry and knowingly transport a handgun in a vehicle upon the public roads, highways, waterways, airways and parking lots generally used by the public.”

DUI SATURATION PATROL: On Saturday, March 17, beginning at 7:00 p.m., 10 troopers from the La Plata Barrack participated in a Checkpoint Strickeforce DUI Saturation Patrol. The saturation was concentrated on the Waldorf areas of Route 301, Route 205, Route 228, Route 5 and Route 925. This area was selected because of the high level of intoxicated drivers that travel through that area. During the entire operation, 75 vehicle's were stopped, 40 citations, 45 warnings and 29 SERO's were issued. 9 subjects were given Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which resulted in 4 being arrested for DUI. The assignment concluded at 3:00 am on 3/18/2012 for a total duration of 8 hours.
