Three Local Men Arrested in Connection with Sexual Crimes Against Children


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 13, 2012)—The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) has recently arrested 3 local men in connection with 3 separate alleged crimes involving sexual contact with children.

Sexual Assault of Children at Wal-Mart

On April 9, a thirteen-year-old female reported to police she had been sexually assaulted by a male subject while inside the Wal-Mart store in California on April 7. The case was forwarded to BCI.

Detectives responded to the Wal-Mart store, and with the assistance of Wal-Mart Loss Prevention personnel, reviewed video surveillance of the incident. A suspect was subsequently identified and additional surveillance video was obtained showing the suspect inappropriately touching two additional juvenile females in the store on April 4. One of the females has been identified. The second juvenile has not been identified at this time. The suspect was also identified as committing similar offenses at several locations in Calvert County prior to the incidents in St. Mary's County.

On April 13, BCI detectives, assisted by detectives from the Calvert Investigative Team, executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence in Port Republic. Following the execution of the search and seizure warrant, David Alan Dobbs, 54, was arrested regarding the incidents in St. Mary's County and charged with 3rd Degree Sex Offense, 4th Degree Sex Offense and 2nd Degree Assault. Dobbs was incarcerated in the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond hearing before the District Court Commissioner. Additional charges are pending regarding the incidents in Calvert County and identification of an additional victim in St. Mary's County.

Investigation to identify the second child from the April 4th incident at the California Wal-Mart is continuing. BCI is asking that the person who was with a 10-year-old female child and reported a similar incident to Wal-Mart personnel on Wednesday, April 4 between the hours 12:00 Noon and 1:00 p.m. to contact Det./Cpl. Dameron Man Arrested for Illegal Sexual Activity with Two Female Minors

On February 27, BCI detectives with the Special Victims Unit conducted an investigation regarding alleged sex crimes committed by Cary Michael Anderson, 32, of Dameron, over the past two years. As a result of the investigation it was revealed Anderson had engaged in illegal sexual activity with two female minors who were ages eleven and fifteen at the time of the incidents. The victims were not related to Anderson.

On March 20, detectives charged Anderson with 1 count of Second Degree Rape, 2 counts of Second Degree Sex Offense, 7 counts of Third Degree Sex Offense and 1 count of Continuing Course of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor.

Anderson was initially held in the St. Mary's County Detention Center under no bond.

On March 19, BCI detectives with the Special Victims Unit conducted an investigation regarding alleged sex crimes committed by Jody Leroy Malinich, 46, of California, Maryland over the past five years. As a result of the investigation it was revealed Malinich had engaged in illegal sexual activity with a female minor, age 17 at the time of the initial incident and continued the abuse for five years.

On March 20, detectives charged Malinich with Second Degree Sex Offense, Sexual Abuse of a Minor, and Continuing Course of conduct -Sexual Abuse to a Minor.

Malinich was initially being held in the St. Mary's County Detention Center under no bond.

BCI is an investigative team comprised of detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown.
