MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 19, 2012)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

SATURATION & AGGRESSIVE DRIVING PATROLS: On Saturday, March 17, at 7:00 pm, four troopers participated in a Checkpoint Strikeforce DUI saturation patrol. The saturation covered areas in the middle part of St. Mary's County, specifically, California. During the operation, 32 vehicles were stopped resulting in 2 subjects being arrested for DUI. One vehicle was searched based on probable cause, however, no arrest was made. 17 citations, 27 warnings and 3 Safety Equipment Repair Orders (SERO) were issued. At 11:00 pm, the saturation patrol concluded, for a total duration of 4 hours.

Also, on Saturday, March 17, three other troopers participated in an Aggressive Driving patrol. The patrol was focused on different areas of St. Mary's County. During the operation, 27 vehicles were stopped, resulting in 13 citations and 17 warnings issued.

The combined efforts of the two patrols resulted in 30 citations issued, 44 warnings, 3 SEROs, 59 traffic stops and 2 DUI arrests.

ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE: On Saturday, March 10 at 12:19pm, TFC J. S. Gibson responded to the 46000 block of Hilton Drive in Lexington Park for a reported Domestic Assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with a female complainant, 37, of Lexington Park and male witness, 29, of Lexington Park. Both subjects were standing outside awaiting Law Enforcement arrival. In speaking with the complainant, TFC Gibson was informed that an argument ensued between the complainant and Michael Kennedy Bowe, 41, of Lexington Park, which eventually escalated with the complainant being assaulted. Following contact with the complainant, TFC Gibson spoke with Mr. Bowe regarding the incident. Statements were obtained from the complainant, the suspect and a witness pertaining to the situation. Based on information obtained Mr. Bowe was arrested for Second Degree Assault and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Sunday, March 11 at 12:26am, TFC E. M. Evans conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mervell Dean Road and Joy Chapel Road on a Toyota for a traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, TFC Evans made contact with an identified the operator, Jacob Brendan Schroeder, 18, of Hollywood. While speaking with Mr. Schroeder a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected emitting from the subject's breath and the vehicle. TFC Evans had Mr. Schroeder exit the vehicle and perform standardized field sobriety, which he was unsuccessful in passing and subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence. A search incident to arrest revealed that Mr. Schroeder had CDS concealed in his front right pocket. Mr. Schroeder was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack where he was processed for his DUI prior to being transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of CDS and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Sunday, March 11 at 10:36am, Tpr. E. T. Reuschling conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota in the area of Maryland Route 237 and Clipper Drive for a traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, Tpr. Reuschling identified a female operator and Derrick Vernon Jackson, 23 of Lexington Park, who was a passenger in the vehicle. While speaking with the occupants, the odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle, based on information provided regarding previous marijuana usage a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The search revealed CDS in the center console ash tray of the vehicle and on Mr. Jackson's person. Mr. Jackson was the established owner of both items and subsequently arrested. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Sunday, March 11 at 1:56pm, TFC N. E. Gresko conducted a traffic stop on a Lexus for a traffic violation in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Pegg Road. Upon making contact with the vehicle, TFC Gresko successfully identified the three occupants of the vehicle. A NCIC query of the passenger, Rayshawn Deontaye Douglas, 22, of Lexington Park, revealed that Mr. Douglas had two outstanding warrants. He was subsequently arrested for the warrants. Additionally, while speaking with the occupants, TFC Gresko detected the odor of marijuana and performed a probable cause search of the vehicle. The search revealed CDS and CDS Paraphernalia in the ashtray and center console of the vehicle. Ownership of the items was established, with Mr. Douglas being additionally charged with Possession of CDS and CDS Paraphernalia. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where both warrants were served and he was additionally charged in regards to the CDS. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. The remaining occupants of the vehicle where released from the scene.

DRUG ARREST: On Monday, March 12 at 2:45pm, Tpr. E. R. Mersman conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on McIntosh Road, north of Satchel Paige Way in Hollywood for a traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, contact was made with the operator, Robert Paul Gatton, Jr., 32, of Mechanicsville. A NCIC query of Mr. Gatton revealed that he had an outstanding warrant through Calvert County. While Mr. Gatton was exiting the vehicle to be detained for the warrant, Tpr. Mersman observed in plain view CDS Paraphernalia. A complete search of the vehicle further revealed additional CDS - Methadone in various areas of the vehicle. Mr. Gatton was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Thursday, March 15 at 7:15pm, Tpr. S. M. Morton served an Arrest Warrant (T3-15417) on Geoffrey Scott Welcome, 49, of Lexington Park. The warrant was issued for Mr. Welcome on March 15 by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Unauthorized Removal of Property. Mr. Welcome was located at the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was already in custody. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Friday, March 16 at 5:37pm, Tpr. S. M. Morton served an Arrest Warrant (T3-15387) on Doris Elizabeth Thomas, 47, of an Unknown Fixed Address. The warrant was issued with an original charge of Theft Less Than $100.00 by the District Court of St. Mary's County on February 22. Ms. Thomas was located when Tpr. Morton responded to the 21000 block of Ronald Drive for a Disturbance. Ms. Thomas was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Friday, March 16 at 10:50pm, Tpr. S. M. Morton served a Bench Warrant (T3-15413) on Christopher Troy Lyons, 39, of Mechanicsville. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County on March 14 with an original charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Mr. Lyons turned himself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, March 17 at 11:35am, TFC M. J. Pitcher served a Bench Warrant (T3-14032) on Charles Lorenzo Hariss, 47, of Alexandria, Virginia. The warrant was issued for Mr. Hariss' arrest on July 10, 2009 by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Driving On A Suspended Out of State License. Mr. Hariss turned himself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, March 17 at 1:05pm, Tpr. S. M. Ditoto served a Bench Warrant (T3-15419) on Charles Lorenzo Harris, 47, of Belford, Virginia. The warrant was issued to the Department of Natural Resources by the District Court of St. Mary's County on September 18, 2009. The original charge was Driving On A Suspended License. The warrant was served at the St. Mary's County Detention Center where Mr. Harris remained incarcerated from an earlier warrant service.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, March 17 at 3:35pm, Tpr. S. M. Ditoto served a Bench Warrant (T3-15414) on John Michael Luckett, 45, of Mechanicsville. The warrant was issued with an original charge of Driving On A Suspended License on March 14 by the District Court of St. Mary's County. Mr. Luckett turned himself into the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Sunday, March 18 at 6:19pm, TFC E. J. Page served a Bench Warrant (T3-15420) on George Michael Countiss, 26, of Waldorf. The warrant was issued by the District Court of Charles County on August 18, 2011 with an original charge of Driving Without Required License. Mr. Countiss was located on a traffic stop in the area of Maryland Route 5 and Maryland Route 236. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Monday, March 19 at 7:45am, TFC B. T. Wiesemann served a Bench Warrant (T3-15409) on John Edward Carroll, 56, of Park Hall. The warrant was issued on March 9 by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Mr. Carroll was located in the 20000 block of Flat Iron Road in Great Mills and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
