St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (January 25, 2012)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

EMPLOYEE THEFT SCHEME: On December 24, 2011, police units responded to the Family Dollar in Lexington Park for a reported robbery. The complainant/victim stated an unknown male entered the store, assaulted a clerk and stole an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency. The Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) continued the investigation which revealed the alleged victim/complainant of the robbery, Family Dollar employee Rachel E. Bowles, 26, of Leonardtown, coordinated the robbery to steal store funds for her personal use. Bowles was arrested on January 20, transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and charged with Theft more than $1,000 but less than $10,000 and False Statement to Police Officer. Bowles was taken before a District Court Commissioner and released on personal recognizance.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On January 21 at approximately 10:35 p.m., deputies responded to a residence on Point Lookout Road in Ridge for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed Joanna Marie Oneil, 27, of Ridge, was causing a disturbance by yelling and screams. Ms. Oneil was advised to calm down and lower her voice as she was disturbing other tenants. Ms. Oneil initially agreed. The deputies were able to leave the residence as it appeared Ms. Oneil was no longer causing a disturbance. On January 21 at approximately 11:20 p.m., deputies were called back to the residence for a disturbance. Oneil was standing in the parking lot screaming which drew the attention of the neighbors. Oneil was arrested for disorderly conduct.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On January 22, deputies responded Three Notch Road in Dameron for a report of an assault in progress. Investigation revealed Joseph Gerard Denaro, Sr., 53, of Dameron, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Denaro threw objects at the victim including a pot of hot water and several knives. The objects did not strike the victim but placed the victim in fear for her life. A second individual attempted to intervene and Denaro grabbed that individual by the shirt and threw him to the floor. Denaro was arrested and charged with two counts of second degree assault. A search of Denaro's person incident to the arrest revealed him to be in possession of suspected marijuana. As the deputies were attempting to place Denaro into the patrol vehicle he kicked at and spit on the deputies. Denaro also attempted to kick out the door window of the patrol vehicle. Denaro was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, assault on a police officer and destruction of property.
