Mob Causes Chaos at Mall; Wanted to Buy New "Air Jordan" Shoes

CALIFORNIA, Md. (December 23, 2011)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office reports that a mob of hundreds of people caused chaos at the St. Charles Town Center shopping mall in Waldorf early today. Police say the people forced their way inside three of the mall's entrances to be among the first in line to purchase the new Air Jordan Retro Concord tennis shoes which were scheduled to go on sale at 6 a.m. Police were called to the scene at 5:00 a.m.

Police say that once inside the mall doors, several scuffles broke out as people tried to regain their position in line. The Sheriff's Office closed the mall entrances for approximately 45 minutes until officers were satisfied the situation was under control.

No customers were injured, but an officer injured his hand while making an arrest. In all, four juveniles and two adults were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and assault.

There was no damage to any of the stores inside the mall.

There are reports that similar types of disturbances broke out at malls across the nation as the shoes went up for sale early this morning.
