LEONARDTOWN, Md. (December 17, 2011)—Following a series of technical upgrades, St. Mary's County Government's Cable TV "Channel 95" has relaunched as "SMCG TV 95." Viewers will notice a refreshed, modern look with new graphics and live, continuous content, including local weather updates, news headlines, stock market information, traffic reports, sports news, scores and schedules, as well as daily historical tidbits and information.
"The goal of the new SMCG TV 95 is to provide viewers with St. Mary's County-specific information," said SMCG TV 95 Manager Tony Jones. "We feel this will be especially beneficial during storms or other emergencies when TV stations in the larger markets are busy covering other areas."
Viewers will continue to see the usual lineup of governmental meetings, such as the Board of County Commissioners, Alcohol Beverage Board, Board of Appeals and Planning Commission. New programming will include interview segments with county commissioners, segments with employees and updates on current county programs and events. Those tuning in will also notice an improvement in the overall picture quality as images generated through the upgraded system will be fully digital. Live coverage of community meetings and special events will also be possible.
SMCG TV 95 will also boast a new logo, a refreshed emblem adapted from the St. Mary's County 350th anniversary celebration featuring the iconic first settlers' ship and navy fighter plane with SMCG TV incorporated in the ship's sails and a stylized 95 emblazoned to the right.
SMCG TV 95 is only available to Metrocast cable TV subscribers, and not viewers
who get their TV signal from either satellite or over-the-air.
Technical upgrades are being provided by Metrocast as part of its franchise agreement with St. Mary's County government.
