LA PLATA, Md. (December 16, 2011)—The St. Charles Childrens Learning Center (CLC) at the College of Southern Maryland has selected the Charles County Humane Society as the donation source for its holiday giving campaign. CSM staff, faculty, students and families of children at the CLC were invited to donate dog and cat food and toys for the animals at the Humane Society. Stacy Cage, director of humane education the Humane Society, visited the CLC Dec. 13 to collect the donations and to share a story with the children.
During her visit Cage read Buddy Unchained by Daisy Bix as part of the CLCs Celebrity Reader program. The book tells the story of Buddy, a dog that was rescued from a home where he was mistreated and then placed in a shelter where he meets his forever family. After the story concluded the children were invited to meet and visit with Deuce, a female yorkie poo who is new to the Humane Society and looking for her permanent home.

The St. Charles Childrens Learning Center at CSM features Celebrity Readers throughout the year. Celebrating its fifth anniversary where learning is child's play, the CLC nurtures and enhances the lives of children and their parents by creating an environment that helps children interact with their world and peers, and building confidence, self-esteem and a life-long love of learning.
