WALDORF, Md. (December 02, 2011)—North Point High School's Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is hosting the first annual
Lance Corporal Terry E. Honeycutt, Jr. Drill Classic at 8 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The competition will be held in honor of Terry E. Honeycutt, Jr., a four-year North Point JROTC cadet and member of North Point's first graduating class, who while serving in the United States Marine Corps, died on October 27, 2010, from injuries sustained in the Helmund Province of Afghanistan. The program will conclude at 4 p.m. with a performance by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard demonstration drill team.
Teams are judged in different events, or skill areas. Approximately 15 teams from the local area are expected to compete. Skill areas that teams are judged in include inspection, first-year color guard, regulation color guard, first-year unarmed regulation, unarmed regulation, armed regulation, armed exhibition, unarmed exhibition and unarmed knockout.
North Point High School is located at 2500 Davis Road in Waldorf, Charles County.
