LA PLATA, Md. (November 10, 2011)—The Maurice J. McDonough High School Rams golf team recently earned the 2011 Maryland State Championship Title in the 2A and 1A divisions through the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA). The school is located in located in Pomfret, Charles County.
The McDonough team won the title with a score of 648 against Marriotts Ridge High School, which received a score of 651, in the tournament held Oct. 24? 26 at the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park. The Rams came from 17 strokes behind to defeat runner up Marriotts Ridge High School by three strokes.
The team consisted of George Bowie, senior; Cas Dickerson, senior; Andrew Malherek, sophomore; and Nick Stottlemyer, sophomore. Dickerson led the team with a score of 151, followed by Bowie with 163, Malherek with 165 and Stottlemyer with 169. Dickerson plans to attend Towson University next year on a golf scholarship while Bowie hopes to play golf at Shenandoah University.
