Park Hall Elem. Educator Honored as a Math Teacher of the Year

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (November 10, 2011)—Ms. Jessie DeLorme, fourth grade teacher at Park Hall Elementary School, was honored as a Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics Teacher of the Year at the awards banquet in Turf Valley on Thursday, October 20. DeLorme was previously recognized as a SMECO Math Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year.

In her acceptance speech, DeLorme thanked all for her students for making her the teacher she is today. She also encouraged other teachers to be willing to learn from everyone and everything, "because the more we learn, the better teachers we become."

The school system released this statement about Delorme: "Ms. DeLorme is an outstanding teacher who listens and learns from her students as they learn from her. She exemplifies the St. Mary's County Public Schools' mission of accepting no excuses and educating all with rigor, relevance, respect and positive relationships. Ms. DeLorme set out in her teaching career to teach students, but soon learned that it was her students that taught her to be a better teacher."

Ms. DeLorme, who earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Towson University in 2007, has been teaching in St. Mary's County Public Schools since 2007. She is a graduate of Chopticon High School.
