CALIFORNIA, Md. (November 6, 2011)—Local governments in the tri-county area have announced schedule changes and closing for Veterans Day, which will be celebrated Friday, November 11.
Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)
The Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) will close its full-service and express offices on Friday, November 11, 2011 in observance of Veterans Day. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also be closed.
Customers are advised that the days before and after a holiday are especially busy, and they should check out wait times on the MVA website. For convenience and to save time, MVA also encourages customers to complete their MVA transaction online. Online registration renewals and many other time saving eMVA options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by logging on to the MVA website at

CHARLES COUNTY
The offices of Charles County Government and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville will be closed on Friday, November 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday.
The holiday will not affect curbside yard waste or blue bin recycling collection schedules. The Charles County landfill on Billingsley Road and recycling centers will be open for normal operating hours.
VanGO will be operating a reduced holiday schedule on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Business A, Business B, and Charlotte Hall routes. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 6 p.m. on the Berry Road, Indian Head, Pinefield, St. Charles A, St. Charles B, and St. Charles C routes. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Bryans Road, and Nanjemoy routes. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point for Newburg will be at 4:30 p.m., and for La Plata will be at 6 p.m.
The Crain Memorial Welcome Center located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg will be open for normal operating hours, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Call 301-259-2500 to contact the Welcome Center.
CALVERT COUNTY
All Calvert County government offices will be closed Friday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day.
The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed November 11. Meals on Wheels will be delivered to clients.
All Calvert Library locations will be closed November 11.
There will be no public transportation services November 11. Regular service will resume Saturday, November 12.
All Solid Waste facilities will be open and operating on normal business hours on Friday, November 11.
ST. MARY'S COUNTY
St. Mary's County Government Offices will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2011, in observance of Veteran's Day. County offices will re-open on Monday, November 14.
The Solid Waste/Recycling Program, Landfill, six convenience centers and the St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will be open and operating normal business hours on Friday, November 11.
All three St. Mary's County Libraries will be closed on Friday, November 11 and will re-open on Saturday, November 12.
All Senior Activity Centers will be closed on Friday, November 11 and in addition, there will be no Meals on Wheels delivery. Their normal schedule will resume on Monday, November 14.
