Cobb Island 11-year-old Charged with Setting Fire on Utility Trailer


CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (November 3, 2011)—Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged an 11-year-old youth with 2nd Degree Malicious Burning of Personal Property and Malicious Destruction of Property for the September 22 fire on a 6’ x 5’ utility trailer owned by Mr. Peter Albert. The incident occurred at 18204 Piedmont Drive in Cobb Island.

Firefighters from Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze within five minutes after arrival on the scene. The trailer had been loaded with brush for disposal. Investigators determined the youth was responsible for setting the fire. Additionally, witnesses observed him in the area both before and after the fire. The fire caused approximately $250 in damage to the trailer. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The youth was charged and released to the custody of his grandparents. If convicted of these charges he faces a penalty of up to 20 months imprisonment and/or $1,000 in fines.
