LA PLATA, Md. (November 1, 2011)—Mattawoman Middle School was recently named a winner in the sixth annual Celebrate the Arts Contest. The school is being awarded a $5,000 grant to support and maintain their cultural arts programs during the 2011-2012 school year.
The award is sponsored by Bob's Discount Furniture, which is giving awards to nine schools in nine states. Mattawoman, which was nominated by art teacher Lauren Kasberg, is Maryland's winner. Mattawoman will be presented their award on Nov. 10 at Bob's Discount Furniture store in Rockville.
The charitable foundation, Bob's Outreach program, receives thousands of submissions and awards $45,000 in cultural grants to nine kindergarten-12 schools, one in each state where Bob's Furniture stores are located. The contest is designed to support and strengthen dance, music and the arts in schools. Winners are randomly picked by a third party.
