Lexington Park Man Arrested for Arson


ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. (October 17, 2011)—Deputy State Fire Marshal’s have arrested Jeb J. McWade, age 29, for his involvement in setting a fire inside an occupied mobile home.

The 2:30 a.m. fire occurred at 20275 Flat Iron Road in Great Mills. The occupants, Jessie Russell and Samantha Shadrick, awakened to the incident as the suspect left the scene. They quickly extinguished the small fire that was set to a book and clothing in a bedroom before notifying authorities. The fire caused approximately $100 in damages in the contents only fire. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The occupants were able to provide a brief description of the suspect to St. Mary County Sheriff’s Deputies and McWade was quickly located along Great Mills Road and detained for questioning by investigators.

McWade was charged with 1st Degree Arson and 2nd Degree Malicious Burning and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. No motive for the incident has been established at this time. If convicted of the charges, McWade faces penalties of up to 31 years and 6 months imprisonment and/or $50,500 in fines.
