St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (September 21, 2011)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

FOURTH DEGREE BURGLARY, POSSESSION: On September 17, deputies responded to a disturbance on Dement Lane in California. When deputies arrived they found Timothy Wayne Downs, 28, of Piney Point, exiting the residence. Investigation revealed Downs forced his way into the victim's residence without permission. Downs was arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed Downs to be in possession of five small yellowish colored "rocks" which were packaged as if they were a controlled dangerous substance. Upon further examination it was determined the rocks were not a controlled dangerous substance but were packaged with the intent to represent a controlled dangerous substance. Downs was arrested and charged with fourth degree burglary and possession of a non-controlled dangerous substance.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT, RESISTING ARREST: On September 17, deputies responded to a residence on Greenwell Hills Lane in Leonardtown for a report of an assault. Investigation revealed David Lee Snyder, Jr., 31, of Leonardtown, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Snyder grabbed the victim. As deputies attempted to place Snyder under arrest he resisted and a brief struggle ensued. Snyder was arrested and charged with second degree assault and resisting arrest.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On September 17, deputies responded to a residence on Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown for an assault. Investigation revealed Melissa Marie Matteson, 31, of Leonardtown, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Matteson threw a bowl of chili at the victim and grabbed the victim. Matteson was arrested and charged with second degree assault.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On September 17, deputies responded to a residence on Mary Lynn Drive in Lexington Park for an assault. Investigation revealed Kevin Eugene Watts, 47, of Lexington Park, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Watts struck the victim in the face. Watts was arrested and charged with second degree assault.

FOURTH DEGREE BURGLARY: On September 18, deputies responded to a residence on Buck Hewitt Road in Great Mills for a subject sleeping in the garage. Upon arrival deputies found Keith Martin Beard, 38, of La Peer, Michigan asleep in the victim's garage. The victim did not know Beard and Beard did not have permission to enter the garage. Further investigation revealed Beard was in Maryland working as a tree cutter. He entered the garage to sleep. Beard was arrested and charged with fourth degree burglary.

FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT: On September 18, deputies responded to a residence on Lawrence Adams Drive in Mechanicsville for a report of threats. Further information revealed Michael Patrick Plass, 33, of Mechanicsville, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into an assault when Plass pointed a handgun at the victim. Plass fled the scene prior to the arrival of the deputies but a lookout was broadcast for a dark color Chevrolet which Plass was reported as a passenger. The vehicle was located, stopped, and the occupants detained. A consent search of the vehicle revealed a black 9MM semi-automatic handgun under Plass's seat. Plass was arrested and charged with first degree assault.
