CALIFORNIA, Md. (September 2, 2011)—Local governmental entities have announced the following closings and schedule changes in observance of the coming Labor Day holiday weekend.
COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND
The College of Southern Maryland will be closed Saturday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 5 in celebration of Labor Day. The college will resume its normal schedule Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Classes begin for the Fall semester and Fall Mini-session I on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Registration will be available throughout the Labor Day weekend at
www.csmd.edu through online access at my.CSMD services.
MARYLAND STATE PARKS
The Maryland Park Service (MPS) has reopened all of Marylands State Parks after extensive clean-up and repairs in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Some parks may still be in the final stages of clean-up and there may be lingering power outages in some limited areas by the weekend, but the MPS encourages Maryland families to enjoy outdoor recreation at their State Parks over the holiday weekend.

www.dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/. Park visitors can also contact MPS customer service at 1-800-830-3974 for updated information.
ST. MARY'S COUNTY GOVERNMENT
County government offices will be closed on Monday, September 5. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 6.
The St. Andrews Landfill and six Convenience Centers will be closed and the St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will not be operating on Monday, September 5. The landfill, convenience centers, and STS will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the observed holiday.
All Senior Activity Centers and the three St. Mary's County libraries will be closed on Monday, September 5. There will also be no Meals on Wheels delivery.
CALVERT COUNTY GOVERNMENT
All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 5.
The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed Sept. 5. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered to clients Monday.
Calvert Library locations will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Monday, Sept. 5.
There will be no public transportation services Sept. 5. Regular schedules will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The Appeal Landfill and customer convenience center locations will be closed Sept. 5.
CHARLES COUNTY GOVERNMENT
The offices of Charles County Government, the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, the Charles County Landfill and Composting Facility off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed on Monday, September 5.
Every-other-week curbside recycling blue bin collection service will be affected by the holiday. There will be no pick up on Monday, September 5. Those on the Monday A Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Tuesday, September 6. Those on the Tuesday A Week Schedule will have their recyclables picked up on Wednesday, September 7. Thursday and Friday A Week service will not be affected.
Weekly yard waste curbside collection will also be affected by the holiday. Those with Monday collection service will have their yard waste picked up on Tuesday, September 6. Those with Tuesday collection service will have their yard waste picked up on Wednesday, September 7. Thursday and Friday service will not be affected.
VanGO will be operating a reduced holiday schedule on Labor Day, Monday September 5. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Business A, Business B, and Charlotte Hall routes. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 6 p.m. on the Berry Road, Indian Head, Pinefield, St. Charles A, St. Charles B, and St. Charles C routes. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Bryans Road, and Nanjemoy routes. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point for Newburg will be at 4:30 p.m., and for La Plata will be at 6 p.m.
The Crain Memorial Welcome Center located at 12480 Crain Highway, Newburg, will be open on Monday, September 5, normal operating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
COMMUTER BUS SCHEDULES
There is no commuter bus service, except ICC Route 201 weekend/holiday service, on Monday, September 5.
