Mechanicsville Woman Charged with Arson


ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. (August 31, 2011) – Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a Mechanicsville woman with arson related charges in connection with a mobile home fire located at 39934 New Market Turner Road in Mechanicsville.

The early afternoon fire engulfed the mobile home as units arrived from Mechanicsville and Hollywood Volunteer Fire Departments. The fire was quickly placed under control within fifteen minutes.

The investigation revealed a verbal altercation occurred between the homeowner, William Dotson and his girlfriend Cynthia D. Pinkney, age 32. As a result of the altercation, Pinkney ignited blankets on fire in the bathtub causing an estimated $3,000 in damages to the dwelling.

Pinkney was arrested on a warrant for Arson 1st Degree and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center today where she is awaiting review before a District Court Commissioner. If found guilty of the charges, Pinkney faces a penalty of up to 30 years imprisonment and/or $50,000 in fines.
