St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (August 25, 2011)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

POSSIBLE MURDER: On August 24 at 11:38 p.m., police responded to the area of Sell Drive in Lexington Park for the report of a motor vehicle striking a tree. It was determined that the operator of the vehicle, Deandre Agustus Hawkins, 20, of Lexington Park, had a gunshot wound in his upper torso. Hawkins was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing an investigation into this incident.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT, DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THEFT: On August 17, a woman, later identified as Sharon Elizabeth McCallum, 60, of Great Mills, entered the Subway sandwich shop on Merchants Lane in Leonardtown. McCallum removed a bottle of Coca Cola from the refrigerated cooler, sat down at a table and began drinking it. When the manager asked McCallum if she was going to purchase the cola, McCallum threw the bottle at the manager striking him in the abdomen. The manger instructed McCallum to leave the restaurant. McCallum walked over to the refrigerated cooler again, removed a second cola and exited the restaurant without paying. Deputies located McCallum a short time later in the area. When the deputies attempted to interview her she became disorderly, cursed and threatened them. Several citizens witnessed McCallum's disorderly behavior. Deputies arrested McCallum and charged her with second degree assault, theft and disorderly conduct.

FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On August 18, deputies responded to a residence on Golden Thompson Road in Avenue for a report of an assault. Investigation revealed Robert Stephen Nelson, Sr., 55, of Avenue, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim. The dispute escalated into a physical assault when Nelson attempted to choke the victim then attempt to assault the victim with a knife. Nelson was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH A PEACE ORDER: On August 19 at approximately 11:00 a.m., William Samuel Parks, 20, of Great Mills, was served with a peace order stating that he have no contact with the petitioner. On August 19 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Parks violated the conditions of the order by attempting to contact the petitioner. Parks was arrested and charged with violating the conditions of the peace order.

BURGLARY, FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On August 20, deputies responded to a residence on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park for a report an assault. Investigation revealed Jermaine Stanley Greenwell, 20, of Lexington Park, broke into the victim's residence by kicking in the front door. Once inside, Greenwell assaulted the victim by punching her in the face. Greenwell then picked up a sword which was inside of the victim's residence and held it to the victim's throat. Greenwell cut the victim if she told anyone about the break in or assault. Deputies located Greenwell and charged him with burglary, first degree assault and second degree assault.
