Investigators Determine Source of California House Explosion

CALIFORNIA, Md. (August 21, 2011) – Deputy State Fire Marshals have determined the source of an explosion which injured two people and destroyed their California home six days ago. Investigators have determined that a propane gas leak in a crawl space pipe allowed the gas to collect and explode.

The August 16th incident at 45915 Patuxent Lane sent Carol Andrews (age 67) and Robert Andrews (age 80) to area hospitals. The Andrews were in the home at the time of the explosion.

The source which ignited the gas is still unknown. Investigators have identified numerous possibilities which are commonly found in homes.

Thirty-four firefighters from area departments responded to the scene after by-standers aided the Andersons from the debris of their home. Damages to the home and its contents are estimated at $400,000.
