LA PLATA, Md. (August 17, 2011)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On Aug. 16 at 10:39 p.m., officers were investigating a theft in the 2500 block of Business Park Drive in Waldorf when they encountered Denard Hartwell, 37, to the rear of the address. Officers found a large amount of money on Hartwell and recovered marijuana inside Hartwell’s car. Hartwell was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. Cpl. C. Roberts made the arrest.

THEFT: On Aug. 13 between 7 a.m. – 10 p.m., unknown suspects broke into a car in the 8000 block of 8000 block of Keech Road in Charlotte Hall and stole the transmission, tires, hood and other parts. Officers canvassed the neighborhood and processed the scene for evidence. Officer S. Miller is investigating.

MAN CHARGED WITH ASSUALTING POLICE OFFICERS: On Aug. 15 at 9:44 p.m., officers were on ATV’s conducting patrols in the area of Quillen Circle in Waldorf when they came across Lloyd Wilson Daniels, Jr., 18, of Waldorf. Officers recognized Daniels as a suspect in a prior assault and knew he had an open warrant. As officers approached Daniels to place him under arrest, Daniels resisted and struck and kicked the two officers. He was subdued and placed in the back of a police car. While Daniels was being transported, he kicked out the side windows of the cruiser. He then maneuvered his hands to open the rear car door and jumped out of the vehicle as it pulled into the District I police station. Daniels was quickly apprehended and taken to the Charles County Detention Center. He was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, escape, and destruction of property. In addition he was served the arrest warrant for the previous assault.

OFFICERS RECOVER STOLEN MOPED FROM MONTGOMERY COUNTY: On Aug. 15 at 10:26 a.m., Officers J. Morals and M. De Paulo were conducting stationary radar on Lexington Drive and Middletown Road in Waldorf when they attempted to stop a moped. The driver pulled over but fled as officers approached. Officers canvassed the area and found the moped nearby; the driver was gone. A check of the moped revealed it had been stolen from Silver Spring. Officer Morales is investigating.
