LEONARDTOWN, Md. (August 8, 2011)The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.
THEFT UNDER $100: On Thursday, August 4 at 4:00pm, TFC M. A. Moore responded to the Food Lion on Alton Lane in California for a reported theft. A lookout was provided for the suspect vehicle, a green Ford Escape, which was located in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Maryland Route 245. Contact was made with the operator of the vehicle who advised she transported two subjects to the store but was unaware of a theft occurring. Accounts provided by Gregory Allen Tippett, 18, of California, and a female juvenile, 15, of Valley Lee, confirmed that the subjects entered the retail establishment, concealed merchandise, and exited the store without paying for the items. Both subjects were arrested for Theft Under $100.00. Based on accounts and merchandise located, it was determined that thefts occurred at both Wal-Mart and Food Lion. Both subjects were returned to both establishments were no trespass orders were issued and stolen items returned. Mr. Tippett was then transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. The juvenile female was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack where she was processed and released to a guardian pending further action by juvenile services.
DRUG ARREST: On Thursday, August 4 at 11:54pm, Tpr. E. R. Mersman conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge passenger vehicle in the area of Maryland Route 4 and South Patuxent Boulevard for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the operator, he was identified as Justin Ryan Gray, 29, of Seabrook. While conversing with the operator, Tpr. Mersman observed in plain view a plastic bag containing marijuana. The plastic bag was located in the cup holder area of the vehicle. Mr. Gray was subsequently asked to exit the vehicle and was placed under arrest for Possession of CDS - Marijuana. A search incident to arrest also revealed additional CDS in the vehicle glove box. Additional queries on Mr. Gray and the vehicle indicated that Mr. Gray was operating the vehicle on a suspended license and that the registration of the vehicle expired in December of 2010. Mr. Gray was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
WARRANT SERVICE: On Friday, August 5 at 10:40am, Tpr. S. M. Ditoto served a Bench Warrant (T3-15060) on Larry Andre Rice, Jr., 26, of California. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County on July 27 with an original charge of Driving On A Suspended License. Mr. Rice turned himself in to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was taken into custody, served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
WARRANT SERVICE: On Friday, August 5 at 1:00pm, TFC G.A. Thompson served an Arrest Warrant (T3-14993) on Patrick Shawn Daly, 21, of Lexington Park. On June 10 the warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of Threats of Arson and Second Degree Assault. Mr. Daly was located and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was served and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
DRUG ARREST: On Friday, August 5 at 6:22pm, TFC N. E. Gresko observed a blue Mitsubishi in violation of Maryland traffic laws in the area of Maryland Route 245 and Old Hollywood Road, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Upon activating his emergency equipment, TFC Gresko observed the vehicle turn onto Tin Top Hill Lane at a higher rate of speed as though it was attempting to avoid contact being made. Ultimately the vehicle stopped at the end of Tin Top Hill Lane and TFC Gresko made contact with the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle. Upon making contact, the operator was identified as Robert Kyle Wirt, 18, of Leonardtown. While speaking with Mr. Wirt, TFC Gresko detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Mr. Wirt was asked to exit the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. The search of Mr. Wirt's person had negative results, however, the search of the vehicle revealed CDS and CDS paraphernalia as well as an unopened 18 pack of beer. Mr. Wirt was placed under arrest for Possession of CDS and issued a Citation for Possession of Alcoholic Beverage by a person under 21 years of age. Mr. Wirt was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
DRUG ARREST: On Saturday, August 6 at 1:05am, TFC J. G. Fleetwood conducted a traffic stop in the area of Lockes Hill Road in Mechanicsville on a silver Jeep Liberty for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the operator, Michael Christopher Bluthenthal, 51, of Fort Washington, TFC Fleetwood detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the operator's breath and person. Upon a license and registration being requested, Mr. Bluthenthal appeared nervous, he was unable to locate a license and had difficultly locating the registration although he was ultimately able to provide it. A query of Mr. Bluthenthal's driving privileges indicated that his privileges were both suspended and revoked. Mr. Bluthenthal was asked to exit the vehicle and perform a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. He was unsuccessful and passing, and was subsequently arrested for DUI. A search incident to arrest was conducted revealing a CDS in the center console of the vehicle. Mr. Bluthenthal was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack where he was processed for the DUI and later transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly in reference to the located CDS. Mr. Bluthenthal was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
