Proceeds to be Donated to NRP
ANNAPOLIS (July 21, 2011)—The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has partnered with the Maryland Legislative Sportsmens Foundation (MLSF) to auction a lifetime hunting license on eBay. MLSF will donate all proceeds to the Natural Resources Police (NRP).
I want to thank the Maryland Legislative Sportsmens Foundation for their leadership and support, said DNR Secretary John Griffin. We must all work together to protect our States fragile resources.
This is the fourth out of 20 licenses that will be sold and marks the first time that the licenses have been available for purchase on the Internet. The online auction ends on July 25.
The license entitle the auction winner to hunt all legal game birds and mammals within regular Maryland hunting seasons and bag limits without the need for additional stamps or permits except in the case of federal licenses or lottery style permit drawings.
The MLSF sold its first Maryland Lifetime Hunting License at its annual banquet in 2010. They presented NRP with a $5,000 check for the proceeds from the sale of the license.
The proceeds from the sale of these historic licenses will be 100 percent dedicated to the Natural Resources Police, said David Sutherland of the MLSF. Maryland sportsmen fully support NRPs mission to enforce conservation laws and are proud to contribute to the agencys success.
The 2010 Senate Bill 987, the Conservation Law Enforcement Act of 2010, provided for the sale of lifetime licenses with the revenue going to benefit the protection of Marylands natural resources.
Licenses are only valid during the lifetime of the individual who applies for the license at a designated center and the licenses are not transferrable after the death of the holder. Organizations auctioning the licenses must donate all proceeds to the NRP.
