Eviction in Calvert Brings Authorities to Deal with Cat Hoarder

CALIFORNIA, Md. (July 15, 2011)—Authorities in Calvert County discovered 47 cats on Wednesday when they assisted in the eviction of 60-year-old Jean Michaud from a residence on Back Creek Road in Dowell. Police say they had prior knowledge of the cat hoard.

Twenty-seven cats were located inside of this residence, along with another 20 cats located outside, say police. Of the 27 inside cats, one was found to be deceased in the bedroom of Michaud and 2 were found to have bulging eyes from an upper respiratory infection. Of the 20 cats located on the outside, one was diagnosed with neurological abnormalities.

The cats were transported to the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville where they will be put up for adoption.

Calvert County Animal Control and members of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence.
