PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (July 14, 2011)—Consignment shops are nothing new. Theyve been around for ages and both sides of the deal have used them to their benefit: consigners get extra money for their unwanted but still very useable goods, and shoppers get a good bargain on a new-to-them item.
In the middle of this transaction is the consignment shop owner who brings the two sides together and takes a little off the top as compensation for making the connection.
Cherry Pickers Consignment, recently opened in Owings, is just such a place. With a focus on upscale resale, owner Elissa Main stresses this is no ordinary consignment shop.
Im very particular about the items that I agree to consign to ensure my customers have the pick of high-quality, tasteful and truly useful items. I like to showcase things that I would be proud to have in my own home.
Items range from shelves, dressers, bed frames and patio furniture to rugs, pottery, crystal, serve ware, dishes and baskets. All items must be gently used and I gravitate toward decorative home accessories and furniture for consignment, Main says. I especially love it when a consigner brings in an unusual or one-of-a-kind piece. In my shop, peculiar is a good thing, she says.
Main believes that, in todays economy when budgets are tight, the consignment shop is making a comeback. The consignment model provides an excellent opportunity for people to make a little money on home furnishings they might want to get rid of because they are downsizing or redecorating their home.
You dont have to throw away good, still-useable items. And for those who are looking for new treasures as a way to spruce up their living space, what better way to do that than with a beautiful, yet truly affordable piece.
