LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 14, 2011)—The 2011-2012 school system operational calendar was adjusted to reflect a change in the primary election date and the implementation of three furlough days to balance the school system budget, according to the superintendent's office.
The holiday for the primary election previously scheduled for February 14, 2012 has been changed to a school day since the primary election will now be held on April 3, 2012 during the previously scheduled Spring Break.
Schools will now be open for full day sessions on October 10, 2011; October 21, 2011; and April 27, 2012 days previously planned for staff professional development. Schools will now be closed on December 19, 2011; December 20, 2011; and December 21, 2011 as part of Winter Break to provide for the three furlough days. All school and central offices will be closed December 21, 2011 - January 2, 2012. This change will also net significant energy savings for the school system.
The end of the school year days were adjusted accordingly. June 12, 2012; June 13, 2012; and June 14, 2012 will be early dismissal days. June 14, 2012 will be the last day of school for students. Other calendar adjustments may be necessary based on inclement weather or emergency situations during the school year.
