Chas. Co. Board of Ed. Approves Principal Appointments


LA PLATA, Md. (June 30, 2011)—The Charles County Board of Education met Monday evening to approve appointments of six new principals and eight new vice principals, which set in motion reassignments of most elementary school principals. Four long-serving principals, Annie Blount, Deborah Hile, Peggy Mertes and Jervie Petty, are retiring at the end of this week, creating opening and a shift in assignments. The Board of Education on Monday unanimously voted to accept the Superintendent’s recommendations. All changes take effect July 1.

The Board approved the appointments of the following new principals:

-- Verniece Rorie, vice principal at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School, appointed as principal at Mitchell;

-- Stephanie Nottingham, vice principal at Eva Turner Elementary School, appointed as principal of Turner;

-- Kathy Kiessling, vice principal at John Hanson Middle School, appointed as principal at Hanson;

-- Sonia Jones, acting principal at Matthew Henson Middle School, appointed as principal of Henson;

-- Kathy Perriello, vice principal at General Smallwood Middle School, appointed as principal at Smallwood; and

-- Bradley Snow, vice principal at Maurice J. McDonough High School, appointed as principal of McDonough.

Principal reassignments approved by the Superintendent are

-- Kimberly Hairston, from C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School to Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School;

-- Robert Opiekun, from Dr. Mudd to J.P. Ryon Elementary School;

-- Virginia McGraw, from Ryon to William B. Wade Elementary School;

-- Amy DiSabatino, from Wade to Barnhart;

-- Darryl Evans, from Berry Elementary School to Dr. Gustavus Brown Elementary School;

-- Marvin Jones, from Brown to Berry;

-- Kathleen Morgan, from Turner to Dr. Thomas L. Higdon Elementary School;

-- Linda Gill, from Mitchell to Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Elementary School;

-- Thadine Wright, from Jenifer to J.C. Parks Elementary School;

-- Kristin Shields, from Parks to Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy Elementary School;

-- Gregory Miller, from Arthur Middleton Elementary School to T.C. Martin Elementary School; and

-- Sabrina Robinson-Taylor, from T.C. Martin to Middleton.

-- Cynthia Baker, principal at Smallwood, has been assigned to serve as the Superintendent’s Hearing Officer.

The Board approved the appointments of the following new vice principals:

-- Tina Francis, teacher at John Hanson Middle School, assigned to Indian Head Elementary School;

-- Michelle Beckwith, reading resource teacher at Berry, assigned to Mitchell;

-- William Miller, teacher at Berry Elementary School, assigned to Turner;

-- Ben Kohlhorst, teacher at Theodore G. Davis Middle School, assigned to Hanson;

-- Jennifer Branham, teacher at Davis, assigned to Benjamin Stoddert Middle School;

-- Allen Wright, teacher at Smallwood, assigned to Smallwood;

-- Steven Roberts, teacher at Westlake High School, assigned to McDonough; and

-- Mark Gladfelter, teacher at McDonough, assigned to McDonough.

The Superintendent has reassigned the following vice principals:

-- Louis D’Ambrosio, from Indian Head to William A. Diggs Elementary School;

-- Laurie Brown-Abdelmageed, from Dr. Mudd to Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy;

-- Natalie Marston, from Mt. Hope/Nanjemoy to Dr. Mudd;

-- Yvonne Nichols, from Davis to Hanson;

-- Laura Coffren, from Piccowaxen to Hanson;

-- Cheryl Davis, from Hanson to Westlake;

-- Lori Gibson, from Westlake to McDonough;

-- Charmaine Young-Waddy, from McDonough to Piccowaxen;

-- Kathleen Morris, from Milton M. Somers Middle School to Henson;

-- Matthew Loyd, from Stoddert to La Plata High School;

-- Peggy Tisdale, from McDonough to Henry E. Lackey High School; and

-- Kimberly Holmes, from Lackey to Davis.
