Government Closings, Schedule Changes for July 4 Holiday


CALIFORNIA, Md. (June 29, 2011)—Local governments in southern Maryland announced closings and schedule changes in observance of the Independence Day holiday this coming weekend.

CHARLES COUNTY

The offices of Charles County Government, the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, the Charles County Sanitary Landfill, Recycling Center, and Composting Facility off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed on Monday, July 4.

The Crain Memorial Welcome Center in Newburg will be open on Monday, July 4, for normal operating hours, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The holiday will affect the curbside weekly yard waste and every-other-week recycling collection services. Service will be suspended on Independence Day, and resume the following day. Those who receive Monday “B” Week every-other-week curbside recycling and Monday yard waste collection services will have their recyclable items picked up on Tuesday, July 5. Those who receive Tuesday “B” Week every-other-week curbside recycling and Tuesday yard waste collection services will have their recyclables picked up on Wednesday, July 6. Thursday and Friday “B” week service will not be affected.

VanGO will be operating reduced hours on Monday, July 4. All bus service will operate normally throughout the day but will end early as follows:

-- Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point for the 301 Connector, Business A, Business B, and Charlotte Hall will be at 5:30 p.m. Last departures from the Waldorf transfer point for Berry Road, Indian Head, Pinefield, St. Charles A, St. Charles B, and St. Charles C will be at 6 p.m.

-- Last departures from the La Plata transfer point for Newburg will be at 4:30 p.m. Last departures from the La Plata transfer point for the 301 Connector, Nanjemoy, and Bryans Road will be at 5:30 p.m. Last departure from the La Plata transfer point for La Plata will be at 6 p.m.

CALVERT COUNTY

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed July 4. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered to clients Monday.

Calvert Library locations will be open Saturday, July 2, and closed on Monday, July 4.

There will be no public transportation services July 4. Regular schedules will resume on Tuesday, July 5.

All Solid Waste facilities will be closed on Monday, July 4, and will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday, July 5.

ST. MARY'S COUNTY

County government offices will be closed on Monday, July 4. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, July 5.

The St. Andrews Landfill and six Convenience Centers and the St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will not be operating on Monday, July 4, but will be open normal business hours before and after the observed Independence Day holiday.

The three St. Mary's County libraries will also be closed on Monday, July 4 and reopen on July 5.

All Senior Activity Centers will be closed on Monday, July 4 and there will be no Meals on Wheels delivery.
