LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 18, 2011)—George Washington Carver Elementary School has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for the 2011-2012 school year, and was awarded $27,450 to participate.
The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to students during the school day. The goal of FFVP is to improve children's overall diet and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. FFVP is designed to help schools create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices, expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, and increasing children's fruit and vegetable consumption.
