Ten Fifth District Students Offered Appointments to U.S. Military Academies


CALIFORNIA, Md. (June 15, 2011)—Ten high school students from Maryland’s Fifth Congressional District have received appointment offers to attend one of four U.S. Service Academies for the next school year.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Andrew Miller, of Prince George’s Co., graduated from Annapolis Area Christian School.

John Simpson, of Charles Co., graduated from Maurice J. McDonough High School.

Ryland de Pol, of Anne Arundel Co., graduated from St. Mary's High School.

MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY

Conor Zimmerman, of Charles Co., graduated from La Plata High School.

Brandt Engel, of St. Mary’s Co., graduated from Leonardtown High School.

NAVAL ACADEMY

Molly Jo Nantz, of St. Mary’s Co., graduated from Leonardtown High School.

Nicholas Laurel, of St. Mary’s Co., graduated from Leonardtown High School.

Mitchell Fitzgerald, of Prince George’s Co., graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School.

WEST POINT

Paul Agyapong, of Prince George’s Co., graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School.

Patrick Bauk, of St. Mary’s Co., graduated from Leonardtown High School.

Today, Congressman Steny Hoyer held a reception for the students and their families at the Library of Congress in Washington.
