ANNAPOLIS (May 26, 2011) The Maryland Park Service is anticipating capacity crowds at State Parks during the Memorial Day weekend. All 2,100 campsites and all cabins across the State are reserved and a summer-like weather forecast is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to state park beaches, picnic areas, and trails.
Last year, 362,714 people visited Marylands state parks during the Memorial Day weekend, setting the stage for hosting approximately 6 million people from the traditional start of summer through the Labor Day weekend.
State Parks represent an affordable, relaxing way to connect with nature, family and friends, said Maryland Park Service Superintendent Nita Settina. Theres a State Park within easy driving distance of every Marylander, allowing them to save money on gas, help the environment and still not have to make any sacrifices when it comes to their holiday adventure.
While state park campgrounds are at capacity for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, many campsites are still available for the remainder of the summer. Campers can make reservations by visiting http://reservations.dnr.state.md.us or by calling 1-888-432-2267.
