Skateboarder Killed in Roadway in Early Morning

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (May 13, 2011) — A 21 year-old California, Maryland man died as a result of injuries received when he was struck by a car as he was skateboarding on Route 237 at approximately 1:08 a.m. Thursday morning. Keegan Scott Clinger was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma after the accident, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Police say Derstin Roman Gray, 32, of Lexington Park, was traveling southbound on Route 237 in the area of Belvoir Road in California, in a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis, when he encountered two skateboarders in the roadway. After noticing the first skateboarder, Gray attempted to avoid the person and subsequently struck the second skateboarder, Mr. Clinger.

Police did not release the name of the uninjured skateboarder.

Police say that speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision. No charges have been filed against Mr. Gray.
