WALDORF, Md. (April 30, 2011) Authorities have charged a Waldorf teen with use of a Molotov Cocktail. The seventeen year-old male allegedly constructed and used the device in a parking lot of the Westlake High School when he lit it and threw it at a Charles County Sheriff's Office marked patrol vehicle. The vehicle was being used by the deputy who was assigned to the school as its resource officer.
The 8:45 a.m. incident on Friday did not result in any damage to the vehicle nor did it disrupt school activities. A teacher observed the incident and confronted the juvenile who then fled the scene, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The teen was later taken into custody without incident.
The arrest was part of a joint investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the Charles County Sheriff's Office. The juvenile has been charged with attempted 2nd degree arson, and the manufacturing of a destructive device by the Fire Marshal. The Sheriff's Office is also forwarding charges related to the incident.
The juvenile remains in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services pending a court hearing.
