Calvert County Sheriff's Reports


PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (March 23, 2011)—The Calvert County Sheriff's Office released the following incident and arrest reports.

WEEKLY SUMMARY: During the week of March 14 through March 20, deputies responded to 1,728 calls for service throughout the community.

BURGLARY: A home on Chesapeake Ave in Prince Frederick was burglarized sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on March 17. Over $2100 worth of items were taken, including an Apple laptop computer and a PlayStation 3 gaming system. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cpl. Phelps at 410-535-2800.

THEFT FROM VEHICLE: A purple iPod Nano and a Hatchetman hat, together valued at $225, were stolen from inside an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the Domino's Pizza parking lot on H.G. Trueman Road in Lusby. Dep. A. Mohler is investigating.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: Unknown person(s) caused $300 in damage when they broke the window of a door at a home on Santa Fe Trail in Lusby between March 16 and 18. It does not appear that entry into the home was made. DFC J. Norton is investigating.

ASSAULT: On March 19 at 9:15 p.m. DFC J. Lord responded to Giant Food located in Lusby for an assault. The victim advised that while standing in line at the Red Box Movie Machine located inside the Giant, the man in front of him turned around and started arguing with him. The man then walked to his vehicle and returned to the victim's location wielding an expandable baton. The victim hollered for someone to call police and the suspect fled. The victim's girlfriend got the license plate number and police responded to the suspect's home. The suspect was transported to Giant where the victim positively identified him as the man who had threatened him. DFC Lord arrested Wilfred Conan Mejias, 57 of Lusby, and charged him with openly wearing and carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent to cause injury to the victim and 2nd degree assault. No one was injured.

SERIOUS VEHICLE ACCIDENT: On March 22 at 8:23 p.m., members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to Solomon’s Island Road (Maryland Route 2) and Chesapeake Beach Road (Maryland Route 260) for a serious motor vehicle crash.

Preliminary investigation revealed the following: A 1997 Ford Mustang, being operated by 51-year-old James Timmons Wilson, of Annapolis, was traveling north on Route 2 in lane number 2. A 2008 Honda Pilot, being operated by 37-year-old Michele Lynn Grupper, of Chesapeake Beach, was traveling south on Route 2. The Honda started to turn left onto Route 260 from Route 2. The Honda entered the path of the Ford and the two vehicles collided in the intersection. The Ford redirected and entered into a clockwise rotation and collided with the curb of a traffic island. The Ford came to rest on the traffic island. The Honda started into a counter-clockwise rotation and came to rest in the intersection.

Mr. Wilson was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital and then transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center by MSP Helicopter. Mr. Wilson sustained life threatening injuries in the crash and is listed in critical condition. Ms. Grupper was treated and released on the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Cpl. R. Selkirk at selkirrc(at)co.cal.md.us or 410-535-2800.
