ST. MARYS CITY, Md. (March 13, 2011) Joe Urgo, president of St. Marys College of Maryland, has been appointed a member of the Chancellors and Presidents Advisory Group (PAG) of the NCAAs Division III, a group established to more directly involve presidents in athletics discussions at the national, conference, and institutional levels. President Urgos term runs through January 2015.
As an educator, Urgo said, nothing thrills me more than to see students expressing their knowledge in creative ways, performing or displaying their artistic craft, or competing in an athletic contest for which they have spent hours in preparation. When I am at an athletics event I see physical intelligence articulated, with the contest itself a kind of debate between contending points of view.
The PAG was established in 2006 to provide guidance for policy decisions in Division III governance. While the advisory group is not a legislated entity within the NCAAs Division III, it functions as a device to bring presidential input to the Presidents Council.
