MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (February 17, 2011)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

SHOPLIFTING FROM BELKS: On Tuesday, February 8 at 3:03 pm, Tpr. E. T. Reuschling responded to the Belk Department Store in the 23000 block of Three Notch Road in California for a reported theft in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with loss prevention personnel, who advised a male subject, later identified as Terry Lynn Brown, 41, of Chesapeake Beach, was observed placing perfume in his pants pockets prior to attempting to exit the store without purchasing the items. Mr. Brown was detained by loss prevention staff until the arrival of law enforcement on the scene. Mr. Brown was placed under arrest for Theft Under $100.00 and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. Property was returned to the Loss Prevention Staff.

DRUG ARREST: On Wednesday, February 9 at 4:07 pm, TFC N. E. Gresko initiated a traffic stop on a green Toyota Camry in the area of Maryland Route 244 and Blake Creek Road for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the operator, Eric Maxwell Hempton, 28, of Lexington Park, TFC Gresko detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle and Mr. Hempton's person was conducted. Located in the search was a marijuana cigarette hidden in a cigarette pack on the passenger seat. Mr. Hempton was subsequently arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of Marijuana and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Wednesday, February 9 at 6:50 pm, TFC N. E. Gresko conducted a traffic stop on a black Toyota in the area of Maryland Route 5, just south of Maryland Route 245 for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, TFC Gresko detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Upon identifying all subjects, a probable cause search of the driver and vehicle was performed. The operator, Phillip Brandon Barnes, 21, of Great Mills was found to be in possession of marijuana. Negative results for the search were met on the vehicle and other occupants. Mr. Barnes was arrested for Possession of CDS and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged accordingly and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Friday, February 11 at 1:57 am, TFC J. A. Pilkerton conducted a traffic stop in the area of Maryland Route 4 and North Patuxent Beach Road on a Lincoln passenger car for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the vehicle, TFC Pilkerton detected the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle and its passengers was conducted and met with positive results. CDS was located in the shoe of driver, Anthony Augustus Smalls, Jr., 20, of Lusby. Mr. Smalls was arrested for Possession of CDS and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

THEFT UNDER $100: On Friday, February 11 at 12:22 pm, TFC D. S. Brill initiated a traffic stop on a green Honda Civic in the area of Budds Creek Road and Aviation Yacht Club Road for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the operator, Floyd Jack Rosenbaum, Jr., 34, of Bushwood, a MVA query of the vehicle revealed the registration plates on the vehicle were classified stolen in Prince Georges County. Mr. Rosenbaum was also determined, based on an MVA query to be unauthorized to operate a vehicle due to a suspended license status. Mr. Rosenbaum was arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with numerous traffic offenses. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

DRUG ARREST: On Friday, February 11 at 1:00 pm, TFC J. S. Gibson responded to Maryland Route 5 in the area of Old Flora Corner Road to back up an off duty Maryland State Police Unit on traffic who advised that his vehicle was almost struck by maroon Chevrolet Silverado. TFC Gibson made contact with the operator, later identified as Joseph Brennan Norris, III, 54, of Mechanicsville, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Mr. Norris' breath. A standardized field sobriety test was performed on the scene of the stop and Mr. Norris was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. A search incident to arrest revealed that Mr. Norris was in possession of CDS. Mr. Norris was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center, charged accordingly, and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Monday, February 14 at 10:05 pm, TFC M. J. Pitcher served a Bench Warrant (T3-14775) on James Devwan Pixley, 20, of Leonardtown. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County on January 28 with an original charge of Driving Without A Required License. Mr. Pixley was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Wednesday, February 16 at 12:37 pm, TFC E. J. Page served a Bench Warrant (T3-14632) on James Robert Nelson, III, 26, of Mechanicsville. The warrant was issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County on October 15, 2010 with an original charge of Driving Under the Influence and Attempt By Driver to Elude Uniformed Police By Fleeing On Foot. Mr. Nelson was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
