MURDER/SUICIDE: On February 15 at 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Middletown Road and Billingsley Road in White Plains for the report of a shooting. A preliminary investigation revealed the victim, Christopher Hoefert, 24, of La Plata, was in his car and stopped at a four-way intersection when the suspect,
Robert Hector Becker, 22, of La Plata, drove up along side him, cut him off and prevented the victim from driving forward. Becker got out of his vehicle, approached Hoefert and fired shots into the car, striking Hoefert twice. Becker then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. Hoefert was flown to Prince George's Hospital Center where he died a short time later. Becker was pronounced dead on the scene. At this time, investigators are looking into the possibility the suspect shot the victim because of an on-going auto theft investigation in which both men appeared to be involved. The investigation is continuing.
