Student Member of St. Mary's Co. Board of Ed. Elected


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (February 2, 2011) — St. Mary's County Association of Student Councils held elections for the 2011-2012 Student Member of the Board of Education of St. Mary's County position on January 20 at the General Assembly. Miss Shannon Demehri from Leonardtown High School was elected and will replace the current representative, Miss Aditi Simlote from Leonardtown High School.

Miss Demehri is a sophomore and is a longtime participant in her school's student government association. This year she was also Treasurer of the St. Mary's County Student Council Association. She participates in several leadership activities at her school. In addition, she volunteers with various community organizations, including Harvest for the Hungry and Relay for Life.

On July 1, Miss Demehri will become an official member of the Board and provide an informed student viewpoint to the Board of Education. While serving as the Student Member of the Board, Miss Demehri will be sharing information with students and the general public on an array of educational concerns. This student leadership position also includes being an active participant at student-related and school-related activities.
