HOLLYWOOD, Md. After the collapse of the roof last winter and the rebuilding that has been going on, St. Johns School in Hollywood is finally reopened and the teachers are looking forward to getting to work in the new building.
To celebrate the first day of classes in the new school Tuesday, January 18, St. Johns School held an open house Saturday morning so parents and students could tour the new facilities.
Included with the new school in every classroom is a StarBoard Interactive Whiteboard, which is like a large touch-screen computer monitor.
Its amazing, said Susan McDonough, eighth grade teacher with St. Johns School. Its truly amazing.
She said she looks forward to using the new technology with her students in the classroom.
Christa Weiss, fourth grade teacher, said she wasnt with the school when last winters heavy snowfall took its toll on the building, but she is excited to be moving into the new building.
I told people I was getting a new classroom for Christmas, Weiss said.
Fifth grade teacher Amber Geisz is in a unique situation she is an alumna of St. Johns School who came back as a substitute teacher in the old building and is now a full time teacher in the new St. Johns School building. She said she has been in both buildings and is excited about the improvements in the new school.
I love it, its awesome, she said.
There will be another open house Jan. 21 at 10 a.m.
