La Plata Thespian Troupe Wins First Place at State Festival


LA PLATA, Md. (January 28, 2011) — La Plata High School’s thespian troupe was awarded first place for their one-act play at the Maryland Thespian Festival held Jan. 7-8 in Frederick. Md. As first place winners, the troupe will compete at the International Thespian Festival scheduled for June 20-25 in Nebraska.

The students presented the one-act “Nora’s Lost,” by Alan Haehnel, which features a character affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Senior Victoria Anastasi was named best actress and sophomore Austin Gore was named best actor. The troupe also received awards for best staging, best sound design, best lighting design, best costume and best truth and world in story.

Cast members include Victoria Anastasi, Chloe Baert, Kyle Bailey, Bradleigh Chance, Brianna Cole, Joanna Collier, Hannah Donaldson, Austin Gore, Casey Graves, Samantha Hammett, Alec Hunsaker, Jessica Laidley, Troy McConnell, Sarah Miles, Jennifer Munoz, Brittany Paxton, Kelly Perna, Erin Potter, Shelby Smith, Lauren Sutten, Sydney Vigil and Dillon Wise. The troupe is under the direction of Jennifer Joyner, theatre teacher at La Plata.
