St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (November 30, 2010)—The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

DRUG ARREST: On November 25, Deputy Flelage was patrolling the area of Loveville Road and Independence Drive in Mechanicsville when he observed a vehicle flashing hazards lights. Deputy Flelage stopped to assist. The deputy made contact with the driver, William James Cooper, 23, of Lexington Park, who advised his vehicle had run out of gasoline. As Deputy Flelage was speaking with Cooper he noticed a controlled dangerous substance smoking device lying on a coat in the back seat of the vehicle. The smoking device contained suspected marijuana. Cooper was arrested and charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, suspected marijuana.

Rick Lee Hawkins, 47, of Hollywood, Md. Arrest photo.SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On November 26, deputies responded to a residence on three Coves Road in Hollywood for a report of an assault. Investigation Rick Lee Hawkins, 47, of Hollywood, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Hawkins grabbed the victim by the arm. Hawkins was arrested and charged with second degree assault.

SECOND DEGREE ASSAULT: On November 27, deputies responded to a residence on Hollywood Road in Hollywood for a report of an assault. Investigation Scott Delane Dean, 34, of Hollywood, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Dean choked the victim. Dean was arrested and charged with second degree assault.

Michael Nelson Sullivan, 29, of Avenue, Md. Arrest photo.BURGLARY 4TH DEGREE: On November 27, deputies responded to a residence of Friendship Road in Mechanicsville for a report of a burglary. Investigation revealed Michael Nelson Sullivan, 29, of Avenue, attempted to enter the victim's residence by pushing on the kitchen window. When Sullivan could not enter the residence through the window he went to the rear porch and removed a wooden board. Deputies found Sullivan in the back yard. Sullivan stated that he was trying to enter a relative's residence. The victim told deputies he did not know Sullivan. Sullivan was arrested and charged with fourth degree burglary.

Arrest photo.DISORDERLY CONDUCT: On November 27, deputies responded to the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship in Piney Point for a report of a disorderly subject. Investigation revealed Joseph Floyd Brewer, 36, of Houston, Texas was intoxicated and causing a disturbance in the hotel lobby by banging on the lobby desk with a chain belt and yelling profanity. Brewer was still in the lobby when deputies arrived. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Arrest photo.FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT: On November 28, deputies responded to a residence on Point Lookout Road in St. Inigoes for a report of an assault involving a knife. Investigation revealed James Wayne Murphy, 47, of no fixed address, was engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim which escalated into a physical assault when Murphy held a knife to the victim's face. Others in the residence intervened and stopped the assault. Murphy was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault.
