“It is a tough economy out there and we want to provide every opportunity for students to prepare for great careers,” said CSM Career Services Assistant Director Lisa Warren. “We hear of employers getting hundreds of applications for a handful of jobs. We want our students’ resumes to rise to the top of the stack. Internship experience and error-free resumes can get students in the door, polished interview skills and an excitement about working in their major can seal the deal.”
A month of career services events kicks off with a Majors Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Students can explore college majors and talk with faculty and advisors.
On Monday, Nov. 8, an employer panel presentation brings local employers to give students the inside track on hiring trends and preferences.
Wednesday, Nov. 10, students can learn how they can begin building their resume with volunteer and paid internships in their major.
The Minute Clinic on Thursday, Nov. 18, is for students who suffer from ‘interview-itis’ or the resume flu. The Career Services ‘medical staff’ is available to assist walk-in ‘patients’ who need a 20-minute ‘examination.’
In addition to Career Services events, CSM is hosting a Criminal Justice Open House at each campus, beginning Nov. 2 at the La Plata Campus, Nov. 3 at the Leonardtown Campus and Nov. 4 at the Prince Frederick Campus. Local employers and agencies in the field of law enforcement, and CSM faculty will discuss police, fire, corrections and emergency medical services (EMS) careers.
Every CSM student who makes and keeps an appointment with a Career Specialist for career decision-making/choosing a college major, or a resume, interview, or job search assistance appointment is automatically entered in a monthly drawing. The prize is an I-Tunes or Best Buy gift card.
All events are open to the public.
