LA PLATA, Md. (October 13, 2010)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

DEATH INVESTIGATION: The Charles County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation at the Charles County Detention Center (CCDC). On October 11 at 1:49 a.m., Marcus Calloway Rapier, Jr., an inmate, 59, was found deceased inside a room in the medical unit. He had just been transferred from his regular cell to the medical wing after staff was alerted he was not feeling well. There were no signs of trauma. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy was performed and the cause of death was determined to be natural.

NEARLY 90 POUNDS OF UNWANTED MEDICATIONS COLLECTED: The sheriff's office collected nearly 90 pounds of unused, unwanted and expired medications during a four hour period on Saturday, September 25 as part of the National Take Back Medications Initiative to encourage people to rid their medicine cabinets of medications they no longer use.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ASSAULTING TWO SHERIFF'S OFFICERS: On October 11 at 3:07 a.m., officers responded to Oak Street in Indian Head for the report of an intoxicated, disorderly person. When officers arrived, they encountered Daniel Brent Hancock, 48, of Indian Head. He refused to comply with officers and kicked one officer in the chest and the other officer in the foot. The officers subdued Hancock and placed him under arrest. He was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer. PFC. Chandler and PFC. Bourgeois made the arrest.

OFF-DUTY OFFICERS APPREHEND BURGLARY SUSPECTS: On October 11 at 1:05 a.m., two off-duty police officers from neighboring counties were walking their dogs near Oaks Ridge Park in the 13600 block of Oaks Road in Charlotte Hall when they heard a commotion near a storage shed. The officers investigated and found Charles Braden, 22, of Hughesville, and a 16-year-old male inside a private, fenced in lot. Further investigation revealed the suspects broke into a truck which was parked in the lot and stole several keys. In addition, officers found suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia on them. The suspects were charged with burglary.

THREE CHARGED WITH POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE: On October 10 at 4:16 a.m., an officer patrolling the park near Smallwood Drive West and St. Patrick's Drive in Waldorf observed a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated a traffic stop and upon approaching the vehicle, observed suspected marijuana inside a container near the console. The officer recovered about 50 grams of marijuana and a digital scale. Lenden Aguillard, 19, of Waldorf, Dwight Taylor, 18, of Park Hall, and a 16-year-old male were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute. Officer Leukhardt made the arrest.

MAN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH STABBING ACQUAINTANCE: On October 10 at 7:29 p.m., officers responded to the area of Riva Place in Waldorf for the report of a stabbing. Investigation revealed the victim, 21, had just picked up a friend and was leaving his neighborhood when he stopped his car at a stop sign at Greenwood Drive at Berry Road. The suspect, Leonel Antonio Rondon, 19, of Waldorf, approached the victim's car on foot. The victim exited his car and the two began arguing. The argument escalated into a physical fight during which Rondon stabbed the victim multiple times. After the stabbing, Rondon fled on foot and the victim and friend drove back to their house and called police. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Officers tracked the suspect to his house and placed him under arrest. Rondon was charged with first-degree assault and remanded to the Charles County Detention Center.

PATROL OFFICERS ARREST MAN IN CONNECTION WITH THEFT AND ARSON: On October 10 at 7 p.m., officers and the State Fire Marshal's Office responded to automated Graphics located in the 4500 block of Graphics Drive in White Plains for the report of a man breaking into cars and setting them on fire. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect, Jason Michael Fessette, 29, of Lexington Park, in the vicinity of the business. They stopped him and found him to be in possession of burglary tools. In addition, they recovered a dirt bike he had been riding which was reported stolen in St. Mary's County. Further investigation linked Fessette to the vehicle break-ins and fire. Fessette was charged with malicious burning, malicious destruction of property, theft, burglary, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and motor vehicle theft (dirt bike). Officer Weaver and Officer Newman made the arrest.

ARMED ROBBERY: On October 10 at 3:10 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the Days Inn at 11370 Days Court in Waldorf, approached an employee, displayed a handgun and demanded money. As the suspect fled, he dropped some of the money. A witness recovered the money and returned it to the business. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. WOMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING A POLICE OFFICER: On October 8 at 8:14 a.m., officers responded to the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel on Poplar Lane in Indian Head for the report of a disorderly female. Upon arrival, officers observed the woman jump into the back seat of a vehicle which was getting ready to pull out of the lot. The driver of the car got out and indicated he did not know the woman. As officers approached, the woman got into the driver's seat and attempted to put the car in drive. At that point, the officers and the driver of the vehicle tried to get the woman out. She bit the driver on his arm and attempted to bite the arresting officer. After a struggle, she was subdued and placed under arrest. The woman, Samantha Budette, 27, of Clinton, was charged with assault, assault on a police officer and attempt theft. Officer B. Moore made the arrest.

DOMESTIC-RELATED ASSAULT LEADS TO BARRICADE/MAN SHOOTS SELF: On October 7 at 4:05 p.m., officers responded to the 9800 block of Emerald Lane in Newburg after a woman called police and indicated her boyfriend had just assaulted her and was inside the house armed with a shotgun. She also said he may have discharged the shotgun prior to the officers' arrival. The Charles County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services Team responded to assist and attempted to establish contact with the suspect. After no response, officers entered the house at about 8 p.m. and discovered the man deceased in the basement with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The investigation is continuing.
