MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (October 5, 2010)—The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) on Monday released the following incident and arrest reports.

CHILD ABUSE, ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE: On Monday, September 27 at 10:18pm, a male complainant, 34, of Mesquite, Texas, telephoned the Leonardtown barrack and advised that a male juvenile was assaulted in the 41000 block of Pensive Street in Leonardtown. TFC M. J. Pitcher responded to the residence to determine the validity of the report. Upon arrival, contact was made with [name redacted**], whom advised that an altercation did occur within the residence. Following statements by [name redacted], a witness, and the juvenile victim, 12, of Leonardtown, [name redacted] was arrested for Child Abuse and Second Degree Assault. [name redacted] was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner. Information was forwarded to Child Protective Services, in accordance with Maryland State Police Regulations.

DRUG ARREST: On Tuesday, September 28 at 12:03pm, TFC N. E. Gresko initiated a traffic stop on a 1996 Chrysler van in the area of Maryland Route 235 and Hermanville Road for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the driver, Shawn Christopher Henderson, 29, of Ridge, TFC Gresko observed marijuana cigarettes in plain view in the center console of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed five partially burnt marijuana cigarettes. Mr. Henderson was arrested for Possession of Marijuana and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center. He was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

ASSAULT 1ST DEGREE: On Tuesday, September 28 at 5:48pm, TFC M. J. Pitcher and several additional Maryland State Police units responded to the 21000 block of Potomac View Drive in Leonardtown for a reported assault in progress. Upon arrival, contact was made with a female victim, 44, of Leonardtown, who advised she was assaulted by David Ralph Speakman, 44, of Leonardtown. Mr. Speakman, whom was observed exiting the area upon police arrival, was located and detained. The female victim and a witness provided accounts of the situation that advised that following a verbal argument Mr. Speakman assaulted the victim by hitting and choking her. When questioned in regards to the incident, Mr. Speakman, who appeared intoxicated, was uncooperative. Based on the statements, and physical evidence observed at the scene, David Speakman was arrested for Assault. Mr. Speakman was ultimately transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE: On Wednesday, September 29 at 10:25pm, TFC M. B. Adams responded to the 22000 block of Valley Estates Drive in Lexington Park for a reported assault. Upon arrival, contact was made with a female complainant, 34, of Lexington Park, who advised a juvenile male, 11, of Lexington Park, was assaulted in the area of Valley Estates Drive and Valley Drive at approximately 7:00am on that date. TFC Adams interviewed the victim who advised he was assaulted by another juvenile, 14, of Lexington Park. Information provided by the victim and suspect, whom was later interviewed resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old male juvenile. The juvenile was transported to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack and released to a guardian pending further action by juvenile services.

RESISTING ARREST: On Friday, October 1 at 8:10pm, TFC E. J. Page observed a green John Deere Gator traveling down the road in the area of River Springs Road in Avenue. The vehicle was in violation of lighting requirements. TFC Page observed the operator insert an item into a mail box and then continue back down the road. The vehicle was stopped and contact was made with the operator, Steven Skate Poole, 41, of Avenue, who appeared to be intoxicated. A field sobriety test was performed on the scene, which Mr. Poole was unsuccessful in passing. When TFC Page attempted to arrest Mr. Poole for DUI, Mr. Poole first attempted to walk away from the scene and then aggressively resisted arrest. Mr. Poole was ultimately arrested and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center after refusing to take a breathalyzer test at the State Police Barrack. Mr. Poole was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, October 2 at 6:40am, TFC M. R. Grimes arrested DeAndre Terille Taylor, 22, of Chaptico, on two outstanding warrants (T3-14319 / T3-14375). Warrant T3-14319 was issued by the Circuit Court of St. Mary's County on February 9 with an original charge of Obstructing and Hindering a Police Officer. Warrant T3-14375 was an Arrest Warrant issued by the District Court of St. Mary's County with an original charge of CDS Possession - Not Marijuana on March 25. Mr. Taylor was served both warrants and held at the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.

WARRANT SERVICE: On Saturday, October 2 at 3:20pm, TFC M. B. Adams served a Circuit Court Warrant on Jason Walker Carter, 29, of Great Mills. The warrant was issued on August 24 for a Violation of Probation Conditions. Mr. Carter was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
