CALLAWAY, Md. (Sept. 30, 2010)Tropical Rainstorm Nicole dumped an estimated 7 to 9 inches of rain in the area resulting in multiple road closures.
Calvert County reported the following road closures as of 1:30 p.m. today:
Gunsmoke Trail from Rawhide to Tomahawk;
Tomahawk Trail from Gunsmoke to Sidewinder;
Mill Bridge Rd at the bottom;
Thunderbird Dr from Chisholm to Catalina;
Little Cove Pt Rd from Brians Way to End;
Chesapeake Ave from 3rd to 5th St;
Bay Ave from 3rd to 7th;
Beach Dr in Neeld Estates; and
Big Sandy Run at Rattle Snake.
St. Mary's County government reported four road closures:
In St. Mary's, no hot meals as part of Meals on Wheels for Seniors were delivered today. Participants were instructed to use their prepackaged emergency meals.
Across the State, Maryland Department of Transportations State Highway Administration crews are continuing to respond to downed trees, high water and traffic signal outages. SHA crews will place high water signs and barricades throughout the day, but there may be unmarked areas, so motorists must be extremely cautious, warned SHA officials.
There may be more bad weather ahead. The National Weather Service (NWS) is calling for an enhanced rain forecast for all counties west of the Chesapeake Bay.
A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for the area and will remain in effect until 4:30 p.m. A Flash Flood Watch will remain in effect until late tonight and a Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until midnight.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m.
