Port Republic Home Destroyed by Fire Tuesday


CALLAWAY, Md. (Sept. 29, 2010)—A one-alarm fire completely destroyed a two story wood framed house located at 3305 Southern Pines Lane, Port Republic, Calvert County, Tuesday night. The home was owned and occupied by Gary Reynolds. There were no injuries or deaths.

Mr. Reynolds was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The estimated loss is $225,000.

The fire started in the second floor bedroom and was discovered by a neighbor, according to Deputy Fire Marshal John Nelson. The preliminary cause is still under investigation.

The fire took 45 firefighters from St. Leonard, Prince Frederick, Huntingtown, Benedict, Solomon’s Island, and Hughesville volunteer fire departments approximately 30 minutes to control.
