CALLAWAY, Md. (Sept. 20, 2010)—An eight week-old puppy perished Sunday afternoon in a fire in a manufactured home in the 3100 block of Hancock Run Road in Nanjemoy, Charles County. The Office of the State Fire Marshal says the cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.

The residence was the home of John and Melda Ryce.

The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damages to the property and another $20,000 in loss of contents.

Twenty-five firefighters from the Nanjemoy, Marbury, Potomac Heights, Indian Head, La Plata, and Bryans Road fire departments took approximately 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The fire started in the kitchen area and was discovered by a passerby, according to Deputy Fire Marshal S. Cohen.
