LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Sept. 12, 2010)—The St. Mary's County Board of Education approved two administrative appointments at its meeting of September 8. These appointments became effective immediately.
The Board appointed Ms. Kelly Courtney to the position of principal at Lettie Marshall Dent Elementary School. Courtney is replacing Mr. Paul Fancella who is deploying with his military unit. Courtney most recently served as an assistant principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School. Her experience includes serving as a vice principal and middle school science teacher in the Charles County Public School System. Courtney, a National Board Certified Teacher, holds a Master of Science degree in curriculum and instruction from Western Maryland College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pa.
The Board also appointed Dr. Sandra Tolson to the position of college and career readiness coach at Great Mills High School. Tolson most recently served as a guidance counselor at Chopticon High School. Within the school system, she also served as an assistant principal. Her experiences outside of the school system include serving as a vice principal in the Charles County Public School System, director of advisement and career services for the College of Southern Maryland, and part-time adjunct faculty for the College of Southern Maryland and Argosy University. Tolson earned her Doctorate degree in counseling psychology from American Christian College and Seminary in Oklahoma City, OK, a Master of Science degree in human resources development from Towson University, a Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/journalism from Trinity College in Washington, D.C.
